2 New Prints at my Store!

Very happy to announce a couple new prints are now available for sale! They are "Sed de Sangre" and "The Sailor & The Syren". Both prints came out just fantastic; very vibrant and a soft hand print. The guys at Threadbird did an awesome job!

Sleepy Tipi at DBH!

Very thrilled to announce "Sleepy Tipi" has been printed. It is available at DBH in both Men's and Women's sizes. It placed in the top 24 in this years 10K contest, so seeing it make a print is very cool.

Love how big the print looks and think the colors really pop. I can't wait to see the print!

VelociRapper

This is a collaboration with Jonah Block (aka Biotwist). His idea and pencils with my inks. Coloring was done by both of us with Bio adding a final touch that made this really pop.
A lot of fun to work on for sure.

It's up for scoring on Threadless and you can vote for VelociRapper here

FREDATOR

Just noticed this is up for sale at TEEFURY. I knew it was coming soon so good thing I checked :). The pop culture angle is definitely a different thing from me, but i had the idea and thought "why not?"
Was featured at TEEFURY on October 20-21, 2010.

Sorcerer (Tilteed Limited print)

It's up and ready for purchase for the next couple of days...Really glad to finally see this printed and especially glad it's at Tilteed. Originally did this about 9-10 months ago and while I didn't originally envision it on a silver tee, it looks very nice. Only 12 dollars and you can click the link below for purchase.

Oktoberfest

I did this for some friends who do this Oktoberfest event. Every year I do a design for them (for about the last 10 maybe?). It's a great time and pretty diverse crowd. I didn't make it this year, but the design did well. It's a 2 color imprint on a sand color shirt.

"Sleepy tipi" in DBH Top 24!

It's been a day or so since the announcement, but I've been in and out of it due to a root canal procedure last Friday. Feeling better now and time to update the blog. I'm very happy to announce "Sleepy Tipi" made the Top 24 of the DBH 10K! Very awesome! Would like to thank all those who voted and say I'm honored to be in such great company of other designers. There's some really great ones in the contest. Here's a little graphic for the occasion... Oh, and please vote if you think the design deserving of another round. All votes and comments are appreciated. Thanks again!

Free Texture Brush Set

I like to use brushes mostly for added textures or taking away from spots using the eraser with a texture brush. I've downloaded a few free sets here and there and thought it's about time I added to the mix. Here is a free brush set for both personal and commercial use. Have fun with them.

Dreams of a Feather

This almost saw the light of day a couple of times as far as being printed, but sometimes the stars don't line up for a particular project. It's all about communication people.
I subbed it to DBH in the hopes of a second print there. It's pending approval.

Prints and stuff available at Society 6

I have some prints available at Society 6. This one 'The Sailor & the Syren" is available in the Society 6 shop. You can buy it as a print, on stretched canvas, and as an iphone cover. I'll be adding more stuff regularly. I ordered a medium size print for myself to check out the quality. Can't wait to get it.

Wave of Hope

Second sub for the DBH H.O.P.E. for the Gulf contest. Both subs for this are a little similar to start with, but I liked both sketches and thought there was enough differences to finish and submit both. Pending approval...

WIP (HOPE 2)

Decided to leave the "Mummy from Mars" redo for another day and instead try make some progress on my HOPE 2 design. Still wouldn't mind finishing one more for the 1oK, but I've been crazy busy with some extra work and I ain't complaining.

New Mummy from Mars WIP

Thought this one could use some more. I started playing around with brighter colors and then thought to go towards an 80's feel. It crashed somewhere on the journey.

HOPE for the Gulf

Here's a new one for the "HOPE for the Gulf" contest over at DBH. No skulls (again). It was a nice change of pace to draw some different stuff as well as put some extra thought into what the imagery conveys. Tried a few different colorways, but I liked the way simpler colors show the linework better. It's pending approval...

Sleepy Tipi

I tried a few color ways (a 1 color and a 2 color gradient which I'll post later). I still really like the original colors...Anyway this is something I subbed for the DBH 10K. There's some good one's subbed already. I may sub at least one more maybe two.

Approved and up for voting. Please vote!

WIP - Sleeping Bear's Tee Pee

Here's a new one I got going. No skullage. Trying to get back to some unfinished sketches, and it's a long process because so far I've yet to complete even one! Still have some spots to decide on and colors. This is the first color way. Working title is "Sleeping Bear's Tee Pee".

Saturday, July 3, 2010

The Sailor & the Syren

Finally calling it done. I tried a few color ways, but ended up pretty much where I started (which doesn't happen very often). I'm happy with it and hope it finds a good home.

WIP

Here's one I've been drawing off and on this past week. Haven't had a whole lot of time to work on it (work hours were madness this week). I like this color way (want to try a couple more tho), there are a couple/few more design elements I want to try incorporating, and I need to decide on the texturing.

WIP (Eagle Eye) Colors 03

Up for voting at DBH!
I want to do something using brighter colors than usual. I like that turquoise color and think it looks good on the forest green. I might try a couple of more color ways.

WIP (Eagle Eye) Colors 01

First round of colors on this. It's from one of this past week's Daily Skull Sketches...

Between the Lines (STP Sub)

I wasn't planning on doing anything for the contest, but sometimes it goes that way. Experimental for sure... Approved and up for voting... VOTE HERE

Sed de Sangre

New one finished today. Inspired by Aztec/Mexica imagery. Totally a fan of Aztec art. Something about a lot of it is so brutal yet beautiful. I did a couple of colorways for this.

Belated Store Intro!

Have had a store going for a couple months over at Big Cartel and realized i haven't pushed it on my blog yet. All shirts are printed on American Apparel. Been selling them at markets and online and plant to print more designs here in a couple of months. All prints are waterbase/discharge and altogether a very soft print. I have a screen printed poster as well. All shirts are just $12.

Space Lion (RE-DO)

This is a new version of one I did not too long ago called "Space Lion". I had to change the name to "space Lion - King of the Cosmos", because the original name had already been taken. I did two versions of this, but i like this one better. It is up for voting at DBH!

La Llorona

Based on the horror legend "La Llorona". I don't know how accurate it is to the original, read a few different versions and there's probably more. I was going to put a bunch of skulls laying around, but then I thought textured up dolls would be a little more ominous (and scary, ok, creepier. But hey, it is a horror theme and besides, it's just ketchup people!).

Tried a bunch of colorways on this, and decided to go with this one.

El Monstruo del Cementerio

Last of the horror sketches completed. Really enjoyed working on these and I want to keep working with the linear shading I've been playing with. Next up something possibly horror, possibly cosmic - maybe both? I really have no idea.

WIP (Working name: El Monstruo del Cementerio)

This is the last one from the horror sketches I wanted to complete. Still messing with this linear, etching embellishment. Trying to do it by hand has some interesting results.

Grave Visitation

Finally finished this one... Went back and forth with adding and subtracting both elements and colors and gonna leave it as is for the time being. Text placement would be ideal for this and I hope somebody picks this up.

Valley of the Kings

Changing gears just a bit to show this one. I originally subbed this to teextile and it had an alright reception however did not make it to print. I revised it just a little and subbed it to DBH were it is now up for voting. I did this back in December (09). It's an experimental piece that displays a little of my venturing into cosmic themes.

WIP Update

Not sure about the crow on the bottom. It seems a little too dark to be noticed well and kind of detracts from the depth a little? Going to mull this one over.

Monday, March 22, 2010

WIP (Working name: Grave Digger)

This is another from the horror sketches from the sketch blog I just have to finish. I think all the elements are in the right spots, but I going to finish the hand and see how it looks and make adjustments. Going for minimal colors (1 or 2, no more than 3). These have been fun just for the challenge alone.

Mirada de la Muerte

Next week on my sketch blog the theme will be horror. I usually go for a clean look in my finished stuff, but doing these sketches on the regular has influenced my outlook a little. I still throw in some vector since that is what I grown accustomed to, but I'm trying to mix it up. I don't know what the long term effect will be, but I'm enjoying where it's going so far. Here's a couple of color combos of this one I call "Mirada de la Muerte".

i was going to stop after about an hour, but I went ahead and finished it - I think ;)

I'm still working with cosmic & mystical themes (and DNA); I think that will always be something I'm drawn to.

Skulltomic Fusion

I recently started a daily sketch blog (of skulls). I probably won't complete a bunch of them, but this is one from yesterday (Daily Skull Sketch 007) that I did.

Cosmic Dust (Final)

Made some of the elements in the BG a little longer to take up more length. I'm calling it done now (for real). It's up for voting at DBH.

Cosmic Dust 2 (revision)

I saw some things I wanted to change. The triangle as much as I still dig 'em, was bugging me. I wanted it to be a secondary element and was taking too much attention. Also, the dots making the DNA strands in the back where a little distracting. I just thought the whole thing looked too busy and needed focus. I think I'm going to leave it alone...for now.

Cosmic Dust

Here's one I put together quickly. Still feeling a little rutted and wanted to crank a couple out in timely fashion in the hopes of getting in a creative and productive groove. I call this one "Cosmic Dust".

By the Light of the Moon FOR SALE at DBH!

"By the Light of the Moon" is now available at DBH!

Very happy about this and want to thank all who have voted, as well as the DBH staff! I'm going to keep trying to improve and hopefully more good things will come.

Big Chief Dream Pipe

I've been in a little bit of a creative rut lately and I thought it might be a good thing to experiment a little. This one is inspired by old etching type art and scratchboard. It's a look I really like and while mine falls short in achieving the things I see when I look at some favored pieces of this type of work, I think I did OK for trying. It actually makes me want to do a couple of more in this style.
Up for voting at DBH. Click here to Vote!

The Key (WIP)

"The Key" (Working title for this WIP). This is a little bit of a mix of different elements from a few different WIPs. After putting it together adding things, I thought it would be a fun one to try to practice some coloring. I've been so used to working and planning with limited colors, but not on this one. It's still got a ways to go, but here are a couple of pics of what I have so far.

EVDI Poster Prints FOR SALE!

Had it on the back of my mind for a little while to get some stuff printed. For one, I'm excited to see some stuff get printed. Secondly, I figure why not? Keeping it small with low runs on anything I get printed and see where it goes. Not a big venture by any means, just do some limited releases of art I feel good about and hopefully others will too. I'm leaning more towards poster size prints 1-3 colors at 18" x 24". A T-Shirt or two may eventually happen, we'll see.

"El Vampiro del Infierno" is beautifully printed on 100# cougar white stock in three colors. The printers did an awesome job!

Valkyrie

I worked on this one this week. It started as a totem of skulls and went from there. I was going to add some color, but after doing a couple of different mock-ups I liked the look of it as a one color.

The Mummy from Mars (rework)

Decided to work on this some more. While it isn't a rep of skater tees, I still felt this one was/is lacking something. It needed to be a little more dynamic. So, I changed it up a little. I'm going to leave this one alone for a little while.

The Mummy from Mars

I have been on a little break this last week and wanted to use some of the time to finish off a couple of things, this being one of them. I didn't go into this with the idea of it being a skater type design (in your face, vibrant colors, etc), although it may have worked better if I did. All the elements seemed to point me in this direction. I like it alright and may tweak the BG. I'll probably mock it up on a shirt, but I think it would make a better print.
